Rams Sign Former Eagles Running Back Boston Scott To One-Year Contract

This offseason has signified a change in offensive philosophy for the Los Angeles Rams as they clearly want to get back to running the ball more.

The team has one of the best running backs in the league in Kyren Williams and with Matthew Stafford getting up there in age, they are going to do whatever they can to keep him healthy, even if it means throwing less.

In order to make that happen, they spent big money on two guards in Kevin Dotson and Jonah Jackson as well as a blocking tight end in Colby Parkinson.

The Rams then added to their backfield in the 2024 NFL Draft, using a third round pick on Michigan running back Blake Corum, who is a starting-caliber player that will pair with Williams.

It appears L.A. is not done adding to their running back room as they are bringing in veteran Boston Scott, formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles, on a one-year contract, per Adam Schefter of ESPN:

Scott is a former sixth round pick of the New Orleans Saints in 2018 out of Louisiana Tech that spent the past six seasons in Philadelphia.

In his career, the 29-year-old has rushed for 1,295 yards and 16 touchdowns on 4.3 yards per carry while also recording 71 receptions for 566 yards and a touchdown through the air. In 15 games last season, Scott only had 20 carries for 86 yards with four receptions for 52 yards.

The Rams struggled in the red zone last season but with the additions of Scott and Corum, they now have three backs that have a knack for finding pay dirt.

Overall, the Rams have a lot of depth at the running back position with Williams, Corum, Scott, Ronnie Rivers and Zach Evans. After seeing Williams and Rivers both go down last season, L.A. wanted to ensure they have other quality backs in the organization.

Matthew Stafford wants to adjust contract with Rams

With Matthew Stafford heading into the final years of his career, reports indicate that he wants to adjust his contract with the Rams in order to add more guaranteed money.

Stafford’s contract is only guaranteed through the 2024 season despite having three years remaining on it, and it’s reasonable to think the Rams will get something done to do right by their Super Bowl winning quarterback.
